FAQ
Questions we get every week.
If the answer you need is not here, call the shop on {PHONE} and ask. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.
How much does custom cabinetry actually cost?
For a full kitchen in painted maple with inset doors, most of our projects land between $28,000 and $62,000 installed, depending on the number of boxes, the species and the hardware. A single built-in bookcase wall typically runs $4,200–$9,500. We give you a fixed written number before any work begins, and the estimate itself is free.
How long is the wait?
Our shop calendar usually books six to nine weeks out. Once your job starts, a kitchen takes about four weeks in the shop and two to four days to install. Small built-ins are often finished in three weeks total. We tell you the real date, not the optimistic one.
Do you work outside Detroit?
Yes. We regularly work in Royal Oak, Ferndale, Birmingham, Grosse Pointe, Dearborn, Northville, Plymouth and Ann Arbor. Site measures are free within 35 miles of the shop on Nash Street; beyond that we charge a modest travel fee that we credit back if you hire us.
Is a deposit required?
Yes — 40% to reserve a bench slot and buy material, 40% when the casework leaves the finish booth, and the final 20% after the walkthrough. We accept check, ACH and card. Nothing is due at the first meeting.
Can you match the trim in my old house?
Usually. Bring us a salvaged piece of casing or base and we will have shaper knives ground to the profile. We have reproduced profiles from homes built between 1908 and 1961 across Detroit and the inner-ring suburbs.
What woods do you keep in stock?
Kiln-dried white oak (plain and rift), red oak, hard maple, poplar for paint grade, black walnut, cherry and ash. Anything else — sapele, hickory, reclaimed heart pine — we source through two Michigan yards, usually within a week.
Are your finishes safe for a house with kids?
We spray low-VOC water-based and conversion finishes in a dedicated booth, and everything is fully cured before it reaches your house. That means no solvent smell in the rooms your family sleeps in.
Do you provide a warranty?
Five years on workmanship and joinery, plus the manufacturer warranty on hardware (Blum drawer runners and hinges carry a limited lifetime warranty). Details are on our Warranty page.
Can you work with my designer or contractor?
Often we prefer it. We read shop-ready drawings, attend site meetings, and coordinate with electricians and countertop fabricators on template day. Trade pricing is available for design firms with three or more projects a year.
Do you build furniture as well as cabinetry?
Selectively. Dining tables, benches, desks and console pieces that share the language of an installed millwork package. We do not sell one-off furniture through catalogues or online storefronts.
Still deciding? Send two photos of the room and a rough width in inches to

Free, no-obligation estimate
Tell us about the room, and we’ll tell you what it costs.
Most conversations start with a photo and a rough measurement. Send those over and we’ll come back with a realistic range the same week — before anyone books a site visit.
