Accessibility Statement

We want this website to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a keyboard, a screen reader, high contrast settings or reduced motion enabled.

1. The standard we aim for

We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We are not claiming formal certification; we are telling you what we build to and what we have checked.

2. What we have done

• Semantic HTML landmarks, one <h1> per page and a logical heading order.
• Descriptive alternative text on every photograph that carries meaning; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
• Body text at a minimum of 17px with a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against its background.
• Full keyboard operability, including the navigation menu, accordions and the cookie banner.
• Visible focus indicators that are never removed.
• All animation is suppressed automatically when your operating system requests reduced motion.
• Form fields with permanent visible labels, not placeholder-only labels.
• A layout that reflows to a single column at 320px width without horizontal scrolling.

3. Known limitations

Some archival project photographs predate our current captioning practice and carry shorter descriptions than we would like. We are rewriting these as we re-photograph completed work.

4. Visiting the workshop

The shop office at 2634 Nash Street, Detroit, MI 48219 is at grade with no steps at the north entrance, and the gravel lot has a level concrete apron by the door. Aisles inside the shop are kept at a minimum of 44 inches, though machinery makes parts of the floor unsuitable for wheelchair access; we are glad to bring samples and drawings to the office area or to your home instead. Call ahead on 806-873-7390 and we will make arrangements.
